Sauder's English Bulldogs

A smushable, cuddly, wrinkly puppy to love.

So You Think Bulldogs Are Expensive!!

Why Do Bulldogs Cost So Much?

If your first question is PRICE then maybe this is not the breed that you should be
looking into!!!

In order to breed HIGH QUALITY and HEALTHY bulldogs it is NOT cheap!

There is a great deal of time, effort and expense involved in raising a Bulldog litter.

Without going into too much detail, it can cost $2000 - $3000 to breed, deliver and
raise a litter, without consideration for the time invested.

The average litter size is 4.

Getting the female ready for breeding requires pre-breeding testing, progesterone
testing, etc and trips to the vet.  Then the female is artificially inseminated, which
involves more trips to the vet.  And there is the expense for the semen/stud
service which could be up to the price of a puppy.  Then you wait 4 weeks for an
ultrasound and/or x-rays to confirm the pregnancy which means more trips to the vet.
It is important to make sure if the female is pregnant or not.

Special diets and constant monitoring for the next 5 weeks, plus getting the nursery
ready with heatingpads, bottles, blankets, medical supplies, milk replacer, puppy
scale, and the list goes on and on.

Then comes the C-section which can cost upwards of $500 assuming she went into
labor DURING regular office hours and all went well.  If it is after hours and an
emergency it will obviously be much more.

After the c section if all went good now the fun starts.

This is a special breed which requires the help of a human to bring a litter to eight weeks of age.  In spite of their appearance the Bulldog as a puppy is extremely fragile.  It requires constant monitoring of the puppies 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  You are home from the vet with mom after the c section and the puppies are starving so now starting every two hours twenty four hours a day seven days a week the puppies are put with the mom to nurse.  They are never left alone with the mother.  Bulldogs do not make the greatest mothers as they may lay on or step on a puppy killing it without even realizing so this is why they are not left together.  Hopefully the washer and dryer are working well as you will have loads and loads of puppy bedding to continually wash daily.  There goes the hydro bill.  After a few weeks the feedings can be spaced out and you can get a bit more sleep if you can remember what that ever was like.  When the puppies are old enough they need to start paper training(better round up bundles of papers), be dewormed, microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, weaned from mom, and new homes lined up and people chosen that will receive one of these special little bundles that I have been responsible for their very life and helped raise and bring into the world.

Females produce only 2 -3 litters.

It is a breed that requires MAXIMUM effort on the part of the breeder to make sure
that all the puppies survive and turn out healthy.

The whole procedure is VERY costly.  You will find that most breeders range their pet
bully prices around the $2000 - $3000 mark.

Breeding Bulldogs should be left to the professionals as it is a full time commitment not a part time hobby.  Unless you are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and are willing to have basically no life while puppy sitting  then please reconsider before thinking of getting into breeding bulldogs.  You are not going to get rich quick or even get rich at all.

It is not for the faint of heart as sometimes in breeding tragedy strikes and it can be totally devastating.  There are also many wonderful moments that keep you going but there are also the heartaches that are not soon forgotten.

Beware of all the scams that offer "great deals" and "cheap puppies", they may cost you allot more in the end - not just money, but heartache too!

There is no such thing as a cheap bulldog.  You will get what you pay for.
